The Rural Outreach Center is running our Dream Big! Summer Experience again this summer for our ROC children – an amazing opportunity for them to play, learn, and grow! We are looking for dedicated staff and volunteers who can help make this summer one to remember for our kids. Counselor

The ROC is looking for energetic and motivated individuals to participate in the ROC’s 7 week Summer Experience – Dream Big as Counselors. As a counselor, you will have the opportunity to work with the Program Director, Activities Director, Counselors in Training, and rural youth as a part of
our exciting summer program! This program is designed to provide ROC kids with opportunities to grow and learn all while having fun! It is steeped in hands-on learning and play, as well as personal reflection and social interaction in order to provide a meaningful and well-rounded summer experience for each and every child! The overarching goal of this experience is to provide ROC kids with the care, tools, and confidence to be successful beyond our space.  

Objectives

Lead a group of no more than 20 children through day-to-day activities ensuring the safety and well-being of all children.   
Support the Program Director, Activity Director, and other staff or volunteers within your group.  
Cultivate teamwork and collaboration with group members to deliver the best possible experience to youth.  
Assist with additional tasks as needed.  
Provide exceptional trauma-informed care (training will be provided).  
Engage ROC children in meaningful play and fun while ensuring their safety.  
Cultivate teamwork and collaboration with team members to deliver the best possible experience to youth. 
Adhere to and enforce all CDC and State mandated guidelines including, but not limited to, COVID-19 and other health and safety issues. 

Qualifications

Undergraduate Degree in human services field (ie: education, social work, psychology, etc.). 
Experience working with children. 
Ability to consistently provide trauma-informed care (training will be provided). 
Comfortable with participating in a completely outdoor program & physical activities. 
Must pass a background check & complete fingerprinting prior to the position start date. 
A passion for working within rural communities. 
Comfortable with a fast-paced, fluid working environment. 
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with both parents and children. 
Willingness to learn and be engaging and supportive to all our families and other staff team members

Job Details

This is a paid position at the rate of $18/hour.  
The total contracted hours for this position is approximately 255 hours to be completed as follows:  
-Staff Training & Orientation: From June 27th – June 30th counselors will attend training and orientation sessions for all Dream Big! staff. Approximately 20 hours will be allocated to staff training.  
-Dream Big! Experience: From July 5th – August 18th counselors are expected to work with the Head Counselor/Activities Director and Program Director to lead the day-to-day activities including set-up, activity execution, debrief, and clean-up. The anticipated daily hours are 8:30am-3:30pm M-F. A total of approximately 231 hours will be allocated to day-to-day operations. 

-Clean Up: On Monday August 21st, counselors will assist in summer experience clean-up and organization for off-season storage of supplies. No more than 5 hours will be allocated to clean-up.  
Counselors are expected to be prepared and on time each day. In the event of late arrival, the Program Director or Head Counselor must be notified as soon as possible. Three instances of lateness will result in corrective action, and three corrective actions will result in termination.  
Any planned absences and/or late arrivals or scheduling conflicts that will occur from June 26th – August 21st must be identified prior to June 1st.  
Any unplanned absences must be communicated no less than 24 hours prior. In the event of an emergency, the Program Director must be notified as soon as information is available.

Volunteer

Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience working with children.
Ability to consistently provide trauma-informed care (training will be provided).
Comfortable with participating in a completely outdoor program & physical activities.
Must pass a background check & complete fingerprinting prior to the position start date.
A passion for working within rural communities.
Comfortable with a fast-paced, fluid working environment.

Counselor-in-Training

The ROC Summer Experience Dream Big! is looking for energetic and motivated high school students to participate in a 7-week counselor-in-training opportunity. As a counselor-in-training, you will have the opportunity to work with and learn from Dream Big! Staff and rural youth as a
part of an exceptional care team dedicated to providing enriching opportunities and experiences for kids. This program is designed to provide
ROC kids with opportunities to grow and learn, all while having fun! It is steeped in hands-on learning and play, as well as personal reflection and
social interaction, in order to provide a meaningful and well-rounded summer enrichment experience for each and every child! The overarching
goal of Dream Big! is to provide ROC kids with the care, tools, and confidence to be successful beyond our space.

Qualifications

Age 15-18
A passion for working with rural students/children
Comfortable with a fast paced, fluid, & flexible working environment
Comfortable with participating in a completely outdoor program & physical activities
Comfortable with learning how to provide trauma informed care
Excellent interpersonal skills
Willingness to learn and be engaging and supportive to all our families and other staff team members
