Rural Outreach Center seeks Code Blue site worker, driver

The Rural Outreach Center (ROC), a nonprofit organization offering a wide variety of social services for those living in Western New York’s rural communities, is currently looking to fill two part-time positions — a site worker and driver — for its Code Blue program.

As a Code Blue site for southern Erie County, the ROC’s facility will be open to individuals without safe shelter any time the temperature, including wind chill, falls below 32 degrees from Nov. 15, 2019 through April 2020. The ROC’s Code Blue service area includes Alden, Angola, Aurora, Boston, Brant, Colden, Collins, Concord, Eden, Elma, Evans, Gowanda, Hamburg, Holland, Marilla, North Collins, Orchard Park, Sardinia, Springville, Wales and West Seneca. Code Blue facility hours will be from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Van service will be available from 8 to 11 p.m. to pick individuals up and take them to the warming site. Return transportation will also be provided in the morning, and breakfast will be served prior to departure. On Code Blue nights, the ROC van will make a regular circular route throughout southern Erie County.

The site worker will ensure that Code Blue participants are provided with a clean cot, hot meal, and the opportunity to take a warm shower. The site worker will also be responsible for ensuring that the shelter remains safe and clean during operation. The site worker will need to maintain contact with Code Blue drivers so that they may deploy vans to retrieve individuals. Lastly, the site worker will be responsible for scheduling case management appointments with ROC care manager’s in the morning, if the guest agrees.

The driver is responsible for picking up individuals within Southern Erie County using a ROC-owned van. The individual will be required to maintain contact with the site worker(s) for leads and information on pick up locations. Drivers are responsible for ensuring the vehicle is kept clean and will notify supervisor of repair needs. The driver should be comfortable driving during inclement weather and on rural roads. Driver’s license with acceptable driving record is required.

Candidates for both positions should have a passion for working with vulnerable populations; familiarity with services in rural areas is desirable. Must have good communication skills, problem solving skills, maintain confidentiality and an ability to work as a team player. GED/high school diploma required; college experience with human service focus preferred. Rate of pay is $14 per hour.

To apply, please email your resume and three references to camillearth@theroc.co, or send to the Rural Outreach Center, 730 Olean Road, East Aurora, N.Y. 14052. For more information, please call 240-2220.
